...'When painting Antoinette uses spoons, ladles and pipettes instead of brushes'...
My practice explores transformations.  Links form, web-like between notions, ideas and literature.  These become clarified and then translated into a visual form.  Colour, its use and application are vital to my work.  I aim to create images that reflect and articulate my perception of colour as luminous and seductive. Fascinated by keys, doorways - entry/exits and methods of moving between different worlds (co-existing, parallel and alternate). I am currently producing Dreamscapes: expressive, dynamic and striking abstract paintings...

The Dreamscape paintings are expressive, dynamic and striking.  Colour, its use and application are vital to Antoinette’s work:  She uses a variety of opaque and transparent paints and inks, excited by the harmonies, contrasts and shifts in densities.  Creating paintings whose images have the ability to emerge and evaporate whilst lying motionless upon the surface of the canvas.

Antoinette defines the Dreamscape paintings as visual arenas, landscapes or portals into which the viewer can project their own ideas, hopes and dreams.

The Dreamscapes allude to the visual phenomena of the Aurora Borealis.  Antoinette made drawings and colour reference notes from photographs on the internet and was captivated Phillip Pullman’s novel ‘The Northern Lights’ in which the Aurora Borealis makes a significant appearance.  She also investigated ancient myths and legends about the Northern Lights, many of which referred to the lights as portals into ‘other worlds’.

When painting Antoinette uses spoons, ladles and pipettes instead of brushes.  Manipulating the paint by tilting, coaxing and maneuvering the canvas.  Aiming to let the paint find its own space upon the canvas.
